Police arraign 5 suspects for murder, kidnap in Imo

Imo State Police Command has arraigned five men suspected to be brains behind the kidnap and murder of late Emmanuel Uchenna Alaribe, before an Ngor Okpala Magistrate Court.
The accused persons included Daniel Aturu, Sunday Ogar, Acho Alaribe, as well as Henry Daberechi Nnaeke and Sunny Okere.

According to the five-count charge, the accused persons and others now at large, on Junaury 21, 2012, at Nnorie, Ngor Okpala magisterial district, “did conspire among yourselves to take one Emmanuel Uchenna Alaribe hostage, thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 6 of Imo State Prohibition of Hostage Taking and Related Offences Law Number 4 of 2009”.
The suspects were also charged for demanding N3.5 million from the family and did demand it with threat, assault, blackmail or to kill him if the demand was not met “and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 6 of the Imo State Prohibition of Hostage taking and Related Offences Law Number 4 of 2009”.

Part of the fourth count stated that they “did rob late Emmanuel Uchenna Alaribe of his brand new Toyota Camry car valued at N3.5 million and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 402 (2)(a) of the Criminal Code Cap C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, as applicable in Nigeria”.
The suspects were accused of killing Emmanuel Uchenna Alaribe and committed an offence punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 as applicable in Imo State.

The magistrate, Mrs. Ngozi Onyemazu, who said her court lacked jurisdiction to try the case, ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody, while the case file be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for proper advice.
