Imo monarch kidnapped

The newly-elected traditional ruler of Awo Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, Eze Oliver Nwozuzu, has been abducted by gunmen.

He was kidnapped during a church service.

An eyewitness said the gunmen stormed the church during the service, shot into the air intermittently and abducted Nwozuzu.

Police spokesman Sam Oodee confirmed the incident and urged the public to give information that would lead to the arrest of the culprits.

He said: “These criminals live among the people; so, residents must be vigilant and report strange activities to the police.”

There has been a dispute in the community for years over the authentic successor to the throne.
