PPA suspends founder, Orji Kalu, 12 others, alleges anti-party activities

A major crisis is brewing in Abia State chapter of Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA, as the State Working Committee, SWC, Tuesday suspended the party’s founder and Board of Trustee Chairman, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, and 12 others for alleged anti-party activities.
Also suspended are party leader, Mrs. Eunice Uzor Kalu, former member of the House of Representatives, Chief Nnanna Uzor Kalu, former Chief of Staff to Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State, Mr. Mascot Uzor Kalu, Mr. Chris Aja and the party’s state auditor, S.N. Akpagu.
Others affected by the suspension announced by state party chairman, Ezeogo Emeka Onuoha, include the party’s state publicity secretary, Chief Oliver Obiezu, financial secretary, Mr. S. A. Idika, and chairmen in Aba South, Aba North, Bende, Obingwa and Ummunneochi local government areas.
The state party chairman said no external influence was responsible for action of the party in effecting the suspension, even as he directed the suspended party officials to return all party documents in their possession within 24 hours.
Onuoha alleged that the affected officials had been instigating people to disorganize and disintegrate the party. Onuoha warned that nobody was above the party.
But in a swift reaction, the publicity secretary of the party, who was affected by the suspension, Chief Oliver Obiezu, dismissed it as “a very laughable project.”
He said the action of the party “goes to demonstrate the level of ignorance of the party chairman and his cohorts.”
He said the action was against the constitution of the party and, therefore, illegal and void.
“There exists a party constitution which spells out the resignation, removal and replacement of functionaries anchored on congress consideration and endorsement.
“This was not followed by the gentleman and the breach renders the action null, void and of no effect whatsoever”, Obiezu said.
