Bomb Incidents in Kaduna: Police Security Briefing On Dead Anti-Bomb Unit Officer

The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, Mr. Magaji Nassarawa, says his command has beefed up security throughout the state, and called on the public for credible information to enable him apprehend the criminals responsible for various bombings, in the latest of which one of his men was killed today.
The commissioner was speaking at a briefing on the two explosions at Unguwan Sarki Bus Stop in Kaduna.  He said that in the first, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded in a gutter near a 15-seater Ford bus.  Nobody was hurt.
It was in the second explosion that a member of the Anti-Bomb Squad, Sergeant Sunday Badang, was killed as he was about to detonate it.  Two others who received shrapnel injuries were treated at the 44 Army Reference Hospital and are in stable condition.
Although the information is sketchy, it appears that one of the two who were hurt was the Special Adviser on Security, and Coordinator of Kaduna State Government security outfit Operation Yaki, who was hit around his shoulders and face.  He was later taken to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) in Zaria.

Mr. Nassarawa said the area was then swept by the Anti-Bomb Squad but no other explosive device was detected.
“Equally, we have beefed up security in the entire state and the members of the public are hereby advised to report any suspicious object to security agencies and to avail us with credible information that will nip in the bud, these criminals,” he continued.

“Once again security agencies can be reached on our following hotlines 08123822284, 07039675856 and 08081708671.”
