For
the umpteenth time, the Director-General of the National Youths Service
Corps (NYSC) Gen. Nnamdi Okore-Affia has restated the service position
not to post corps members to volatile areas.
Gen.
Okore-Affia, who said that the scheme has a mandate to post corps
members to every part of the country as enunciated by the law
establishing it, however, regretted that events have made the scheme to
change its position.
Speaking
in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, when he visited Governor Theodore
Orji, the NYSC chief said the service view the lives of corps members as
very important to the country and their parents, therefore the scheme
is not in a position to expose them to danger.
Gen.
Okore-Affia said his mission in the Southeast was to thank the governor
for the numerous supports he has given to the state NYSC camp in the
state and for the adequate security being given to corps members
deployed to the state.
The
NYCS chief praised the state for the state-of-the-art NYSC Orientation
Camp in the state and other things Orji’s administration has done for
the scheme.
Orji
urged the NYSC chief to bring his wealth of experience to bear in
transforming the scheme, stressing that the entire nation is looking up
to him to change the focus of the scheme that has brought pride to the
country.
