Nigeria Union of Journalist NUJ disowns one Odimegwu Onwumere over blackmail case in Delta

The Nigeria Union of Journalist NUJ has disowned one Odimegwu Onwumere recently arrested in Delta State for attempting to extort money from Governor Uduaghan through blackmail.

Odimegwu who claims to be a journalist has been going round the country extorting money from top government functionaries, politicians and top industry players . His stock in trade is blackmail through a website being managed by Mascot Uzor kalu, Nnanna Kalu, Odiuko Eunice Kalu and Orji Uzor Kalu. The NUJ Asaba Branch, in a press statement today warned the general public to be weary of the likes Odimegwu and their blackmail threats.

NUJ insisted that it is doing everything possible to flush out fake journalists from their fold. The Union said that Odimegwu has defrauded a lot of politicians through threats of publishing stories that will damage their reputation. NUJ commended the police for arresting Odimegwu whom he described as a fraudster. The Union urged the police to ensure that Odimegwu and his sponsors are prosecuted.

The NUJ also used the opportunity to warned the general public against stories that are not verifiable especially those being peddled online by the likes of Odimegwu and others who see the social media as a means to become rich.
